Top Ten 2013:
To
The Wonder, (Terrence Malick, USA: 2012)
Again
it was a film by Terrence Malick which occupied my mind for a long
period in this year. I can´t help thinking that all his four
masterpieces he made from up to The
Thin Red Line is
far beyond his early films which established his legendary
reputation.
2.
Dutta
Vs Dutta (Anjan Dutt, India: 2013)
One
of the surprises in this year by this great Bengali actor, musician,
songwriter and film director. An obvious autobiographical inspired
film which sometimes very funny and sometimes heartbreaking.
3.
Goynar Baksho (The Jewelry Box, Aparna Sen, India: 2013)
as
well a great film by one of my favorite filmmaker alive.
4.
Shirley-Visions
Of Reality(Gustav Deutsch, Austria: 2013)
13
scenes each inspired by a painting by Edward Hopper
5.
I
Used To Be Darker (Matt Porterfield, USA: 2013)
6.
Le
Météore (The Meteor, François
Delisle, Canada: 2013)
7.Mud

8.Coffee
in Winter (Manjeet S. Gill, England: 2013)
9.Die
Wiedergänger (The Revenants, Andreas Bolm, Germany: 2013)
10
.Here I allow myself to put three excellent and very unique short
films:
-Redfern
(Trang Nguyen, Germany/Australia: 2012
-Finovo
(Claudio Winter, Germany: 2013)
-Most
72 (Bridge 72, The Markerists: Tobias Elijah Morgan, Anna Wittek and
Un Sok Kim, Poland: 2013
Special
Mentions:
-Yi
Dei Zong Shi (The Grandmaster, China: 2013)
-Ganesh
Talkies (Anjan Dutt, India: 2013
-Gravity
(Alfons Cuaron, USA: 2013
-Quellen
des Lebens (Sources of Life, Oskar Roehler, Germany: 2013)
-Meghe
Dhaka Tara (A Cloud-Capped Star, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, India: 2013)
not
to be confused with Ritwik Ghataks masterpiece from 1960 but
Mukherjees film is a fictional bio pic inspired by life and work
of Ghatak.
Last
but not least I should mention some directors I discovered or
re-discovered this year: Jerry Lewis, Anjan Dutt and Robert Mulligan.
